Lalbaugcha Raja Ganapati is the famous Ganesh icon of the 'Lalbaugcha
Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal'. The Mandal, once in the past known as
'Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, Lalbaug' was established in 1934 at Lalbaug
Market.
The 'Mandal' was founded due to a promise (Nav'as) for
development of the present Lalbaug Market at its current spot. The commercial
center at Peru Chawl was closed down in 1932. Subsequently, the vendors and
sellers who used to sit in the open spot promised to Ganesha for a changeless
spot for their market. With the predictable efforts and backing of the then
neighborhood Councilor Shri. Kuwarji Jethabhai Shah, Dr. V. B. Korgaonkar,
Shri. Ramchandra Tawate, Shri. Nakagawa Kokam Mama, Bhausaheb Shinde, Dr. U. A.
Rao and the neighborhood inhabitants, the landowner Rajabai Tayyabali consented
to give a plot for development of a market. As satisfaction of their desire,
the vendors and merchants set up the Ganesh icon on 12 September 1934. The
symbol was wearing the standard design of fisherman. Since that day, this icon
of Ganapati has turned out to be famous as He satisfies the desires of lovers.
The Mandal was framed in the period when the opportunity battle was at its
pinnacle.
The Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh icon has been sorted out by the
Kambli family for more than eight decades. The family has their workshop in a

was an artist of idols and had been displaying exhibitions all over Maharashtra. He started arranging the
symbol for Lalbaugcha Raja in 1935 when a portion of his companions prescribed
his name to the coordinators of Lalbaugcha Raja. After his end in 1952, his
oldest child Venkatesh dominated and, after his demise, Ratnakar Kambli, the
present leader of the family, began structuring the icon.
Kambli Arts makes the pieces of the Lalbaugcha Raja icon at
its workshop; these are taken to the pandal where they are collected and
painted. At last, Ratnakar, who is almost 80 years of age, goes to the pandal
and will have a clear inspection on the idol. The idol of Ganapati is
